What is a Chiropractic Internist?
A Chiropractic Internist deals with both the musculoskeletal aspects of health, as
well as internal medical issues from an alternative healthcare perspective. Trained Chiropractic
Internists must complete over 300 hours of post-doctoral training in the use of medical diagnostics
for both pathologic and wellness evaluation, utilizing the same examination and diagnostic tools
and methods as conventional doctors. This places them at a unique position to provide both sound
medical assessment and best of alternative treatments to assess your concerns in a comprehensive
and integrative manner. Education is overseen by the American Board of Chiropractic Internists (DABCI).
Areas of emphasis include toxicity, nutrition, allergy and immunity, stress and physical
structure, optimal gland and organ function, digestion, absorption, and healthy bowel function.
Such evaluation within a Wellness Model allows for correction of dysfunction before disease
develops. Treatment of biochemical issues may include custom designed Diets, specialized
Nutritional and Herbal therapies, and Lifestyle modifications.
Physical medicine combines many types of treatment. Chiropractic adjustments to the
spine and joints can enhance blood flow, remove tension from the musculoskeletal system, and
release blockages from the nervous system. In addition, specific exercises or activities to
balance body structure and retrain the musculoskeletal system can be added for maximal effect
of adjustments. Dr. Carsrud utilizes four different adjusting styles to accommodate various
physical conditions and requirements. Medical Acupuncture is often used to reduce inflammation,
relax muscles, and cause biochemical changes without using drugs. Dr. Carsrud is also one of
the few practitioners utilizing the highly effective Nasal Specific Technique to treat sinuses,
allergies, and other cranial complaints.
Chiropractic Internal Medicine is the fusion of biochemical and biophysical medicine to bring
patients the best in integrative, comprehensive treatment.
